I recently had a chance to cross a river in Srilanka in a dug out. the width of the boat was only about one and a half feet and the depth about the same. we had to stand sideways and once the boat was loaded and the boatman paddled it did really look like a crab walking on it side! and btw we were knee deep inside the trunk of the dugout and the water levell was just above the midline. Nice blog.
